Today was Wanxiang Polytech Campus Orientation where students explored the campus grounds, followed by a Tea Art Performance and a seminar on Cultural Differences.
The students first day in Hangzhou included a cultural tour to the Lingyin Temple, one of the top ten most famous ancient Buddhist monasteries in China. There are many pagodas and Buddhist grottoes surrounded by majestic peaks, flowers, springs, and cultural relics. Not far from this temple is the beautiful West Lake (also known as Xihu), the center of Hangzhou. In the summer season, hundreds of types of lotus are in full bloom. Later in the day, students and Chinese ambassadors celebrated meeting each other at the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Dinner! After reading the book This is China, the First 5,000 Years, students discussed various topics and issues fundamental to understanding China in the twenty first century. Each group of students examined these concepts and created posters to summarize their understanding. Parents and students met in the morning for travel information in preparation for our trip. In the afternoon, students were engaged in team building activities!
