The last morning in Hangzhou, after 21 days, students said farewell to friends. They traveled by bus to Shanghai. On the way to Shanghai was a stop to Wuzhen Water Town. Wuzhen is one of the top six ancient towns in the southern region of the Yangtze River, with more than six thousand years of history. This town has always been a fertile land with abundant rice, fish and silk. After lunch in Wuzhen, students visited the famous shopping area on Nanjing Road in Shanghai. Farewell Dinner and Closing Ceremony: Congratulations to all students and chaperones for participation in Delaware Summer Chinese LInCs program. Here are photos of each student receiving a certificate from the President of Wanxiang Polytechnic University. Study Day: Students spent time working on their projects and studying for their Chinese Exam. They also designed and constructed a memory board with reflections to be displayed in the Wanxiang Polytechnic University. Cultural Tour: Song Dynasty Town and Romance of the Song Dynasty Performance Hangzhou Songcheng is a theme park. Actually, it is a replica of a town from the Song period with restaurants, shops, and lots of attractions in the streets. Romance of the Song Dynasty is an amazing performance with elaborate costumes, dancing, acrobatics, music, and a highly technical interactive light show. The show is divided into five scenes based on historic stories and legends of the city of Hangzhou. The introductory scene dates back to ancient times, displaying the historical development of Hangzhou city. The first scene exhibits the prosperous living condition of the city during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 - 1279 AD), the second scene tells audiences a story about a general named Yue Fei (1103 - 1142 AD), who was a hero fighting against the dynasty's enemy. The third scene presents the romantic love story of Lady White Snake, the Butterfly Lovers and many impressive local legends, which happened around the West Lake , and in the last scene audiences are exposed to the charm of modern Hangzhou city. Cultural tour: Hefang Street is the most famous cultural and historical street in Hangzhou. There are many places to visit, such as the tea shop to sample the local specialty, Longjin tea and various Chinese arts and crafts. Later in the day, was the cultural tour of the China Wetland museum and a walk around the XiXi Wetland. On the way back to the bus, we stopped at Starbucks where students ordered in Chinese. Green tea frappuccino was a favorite! Students attended Chinese class in the morning. After lunch, students participated in a Chinese Martial Arts seminar led by Ms. WU Xueshuang, champion of National Wushu competitions. She teaches Tai Chi and Sword skills. Study Visit to Wanxiang PV & EV Facilities: Wanxiang Group is one of the leading enterprises in the industry of automative components, manufacturing, and sales. Their focus is on clean energy with investments and development in the lithium ion battery, electric vehicle, natural gas power generation, wind and solar power generation. In addition, they have invested in research and development of agriculture. Students attended a seminar, then toured the showcase room for parts, then the manufacturing plant for wheel bearings for a variety of vehicles. Study Day: Students were very focused with their studies today. They worked on Chinese homework, Cultural assignments, preparation for Wanxiang visit and research for their projects.
